Concert Review: Paisley Fields

Concert Review:
Paisley Fields @ The Knitting Factory

Paisley Fields checks most of the boxes for a classic country music artist - tight jeans, cowboy hat, fringed jacket, classic heartland Iowa roots. But the multi-talented Fields is experiencing an impressive career climb leading the forefront of the new queer country music movement, bringing in a new base of fans into a musical genre that hasn't always welcomed outsiders with open arms. Playing before a packed house at Brooklyn's Knitting Factory Oct. 1, Fields had the audience singing along to his songs that are often playful, sometimes deeply heartfelt, all backed by a crackerjack classic country band that had the audience two-stepping to Paisley's self-penned songs such as "Ride Me Cowboy." (!!)  Fields is leaving his adopted hometown of NYC to tour nationally for a spell, and I can imagine he's going to raise some eyebrows while his loving audiences raise a few beers in his honor.
