Ever find yourself in Staten Island?  Need a place to have brunch on a Sunday or a bite to eat on any day?  Breakfast, lunch or dinner - you can’t go wrong at Mike’s Unicorn Diner, located on the corner of Victory Blvd. and Richmond Avenue.  Mike’s is one of the hardest working places in the City.  The wait staff is friendly and nice and respectful.  They help each other out and bring the food to you pronto.  The breakfast menu is complete with whatever you wish for:  eggs, bagels, pancakes, waffles.  You want it.  They got it!  The portions are generous.  My favorites are the pancakes!  Available with a variety of toppings and meats.  The burgers are fine too!  There is a big parking lot in the back and plenty of room inside.  There is also a loyalty program.  On a cold and windy day, it is so nice to come indoors to a nice, clean, warm, well-lighted place.  From Mike’s you can proceed down Richmond Avenue and shop to your heart’s content at a variety of malls, one of which, Staten Island Mall, is huge!

Concert Review: Low Key Chamber Concert #7   Lev 'Ljova' Zhurbin - fadolín & Gene Pritsker - guitar Featuring poets Robert C. Ford & Erik T. Johnson @ The Sky Vault presented by Composers Concordance October 30th, 2021 Set on Halloween eve at the Sky Vault in lower Manhattan you may ask what is a fadolín? Short answer: a variant of the violin. As played by Lev Zhurbin, who happens to have named the instrument and is a leading composer of caprices for it, this concert was most interesting. Starting the program with a deeply reflective and introspective poem, Robert C. Ford provided us with his own “cycle of life” template. The interactive nature of the poem sat well with the audience. Continuing Gene Pritsker's performances of pieces written during the pandemic last year, Gene and Lev collaborated brilliantly on Pandemic Dance #20 at once uplifting and uptempo, with even a country twang thrown in. Film Festival Review: AddAMovie Film Festival 2021 'Day of the Dead ' On-Line Tuesday, Nov. 2nd, 2021  Paracademia has just presented its annual “AddAmovie” film festival. A project of the relentlessly creative cross genre composer and artist Milica Paranosic, the festival celebrates the organic link between film and music. The festival included films by musical composers, projects where the music and film emerged collaboratively and scores written specifically for finished films. The spectre of Covid continues to impact  the festival from the fact that the it was once again virtual to the focus of films presented by Sophie Duner and Lara St.John.  Choosing the Day of the Dead for the festival also was a fitting context for meditations on death and our relationship to it.
